I have been an artist since I was knee high to a short-horned locust. My dad, Willoughby Senior (FAA) was a professional artist and writer and I have stepped in his shoes since I was born, though he drew horses better than I did when I was a kid. My family lived in a hand-hewn log cabin we built ourselves in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and had no water or electricity. I love my life with my husband and family in Wyoming among the horses, gophers, deer, antelope, coyotes, red-tailed hawks, and the wild landscape. My work is driven by the land, animals, wild plants and birds I have come to know so well. Hummingbirds still try to get nectar from my upturned fingers.
My artwork consists of all these things and more as I also have lived among the Navaho, Hopi, and Lakota and the mythologies they (and I) embrace. I work with oils, pastels, scratchboard, woodcuts, gouache, etc., as well as creating bronze sculptures. My artwork is in private collections around the world including Beijing,China; Paris, France; Bath, England, and across the U.S. My work is exhibited at Laura M's Fine Art in Saratoga, WY and I am a featured online artist at Xanadu Gallery of Scottsdale, AZ. I am also a published poet and illustrator. Please check Info for news about a major new book publication and award, and contest winnings on FAA!
